A bit about the librarian!
Yes, this is Mrs. Schmitke when she was in 2nd grade! She didn’t love reading as a kid, but she loved a good story! During her elementary school years she lived at a kid’s camp in Wisconsin. Her family moved several times before settling in Illinois. Her LOVE for reading began when she was in 8th grade! An obsession with books led her to spend many hours at the library and bookstores. Garfield comics were also a big obsession at the time!
She graduated from Northwestern University in St. Paul with an Elementary Education degree. Two years later she met and married Karl (who didn’t like reading, but soon became an avid reader when Mrs. Schmitke read him the whole Narnia series). After their 2 kids (Alexandria and Charles) were born, they moved to Chandler where they worked at Lost Timber Bible Camp. She also taught 5-8th grade at Chandler Christian School for 14 years before moving to Pipestone. When she is not in the library you can find Mrs. Schmitke reading, cooking, hanging out with the youth group, traveling, singing, kayaking, playing with her cat, or gardening.
